Janelle James to Host the 32nd Critics Choice Awards, Live on ROCK Entertainment

Awards season is almost here. Abbott Elementary star Janelle James will host the 32nd annual Critics Choice Awards, and viewers can watch it live on ROCK Entertainment on 4 January.

The ceremony takes place at The Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.

A busy stretch for the host

James is best known as the scene-stealing Ava Coleman on ABC’s Abbott Elementary. The role has earned her five consecutive Emmy nominations and a Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series earlier this year. She has also won the NAACP Image Award for the same category twice, in 2023 and 2026.

She is also co-writing and executive producing Rock City, a new comedy, with David Caspe.

Film and TV, together

The show again honours film, television and streaming in a single ceremony. The Critics Choice Association says the awards have historically been among the most accurate predictors of Academy Award nominations, which makes the night a useful preview of the Oscar race.

Nominations will be announced in early December.
