In the year 2174, humanity has exhausted Earth's resources and seeks to colonize Tanis, a distant planet believed to be Earth's twin. The Elysium, a spacecraft carrying 60,000 passengers in hypersleep, embarks on a 123-year journey to Tanis.

Corporal Bower and Lieutenant Payton, two crew members, are awakened from hypersleep due to a malfunction. They find themselves alone on the ship and unable to contact the rest of the crew. As they explore the ship, they discover that something has gone terribly wrong.

Payton learns that the ship received a message from Earth eight years earlier: "You're all that's left of us. Good luck, God bless, and Godspeed." This means that something catastrophic has happened to Earth, and the Elysium is now humanity's last hope.

As Bower and Payton investigate further, they discover that some of the passengers have awoken from hypersleep and have become feral creatures. These creatures, known as the "Ravagers," are cannibalistic and attack anyone they find.

Bower and Payton team up with Nadia, a doctor who has also escaped from the Ravagers. They must find a way to restore power to the ship, wake up the rest of the passengers, and escape from the Ravagers before they reach the bridge and destroy the ship.

Along the way, they uncover the truth about the mission: Elysium was not intended to take humanity to Tanis. Instead, it was a ship designed to colonise a planet called Ikarus, which was located in a different solar system. However, the Ikarus mission was abandoned when it was discovered that the planet was uninhabitable.

The Elysium was then reprogrammed to take humanity to Tanis, but the crew of the ship discovered that Tanis was also uninhabitable. This is why the message was sent to the passengers: the crew knew that they were all doomed and wanted to give them a chance to survive on another planet.

Bower and Payton manage to restore power to the ship and wake up the rest of the passengers. They then escape from the Ravagers and pilot the Elysium back to Earth.
