A Time to Kill

In small-town Canton, Mississippi, Carl Lee Hailey is pushed to the breaking point after his ten-year-old daughter is brutally raped and beaten by two white men. When he takes justice into his own hands and kills her attackers in the courthouse, he turns to young, idealistic lawyer Jake Brigance to defend him. As Jake builds his case, the trial ignites long-simmering racial tensions in the community, drawing the attention of the Ku Klux Klan, who terrorize Jake and his family, along with anyone who dares to help him. With the town on the edge of eruption and the eyes of the nation watching, Jake must convince an all-white jury that Carl Lee's actions were justified — while confronting his own beliefs about justice, race, and what it truly means to stand up for what's right, even at great personal risk.
