Retired black ops CIA agent Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) has settled into a comfortable life with his girlfriend Sarah Ross (Mary-Louise Parker), enjoying a semblance of normalcy. However, their peaceful existence is shattered when a group of assassins attacks their home, seemingly targeting Frank.

Frank escapes the attack, but his former colleague, Marvin Boggs (John Malkovich) isn't so lucky.  Marvin's apparent death reignites Frank's suspicions, leading him to believe that their past is catching up to them. This suspicion is confirmed when a corrupt government agent, Jack Horton (Neal McDonough), reveals that a valuable and potentially devastating portable nuclear device has gone missing.

Horton believes that Frank and his team, a group of retired operatives collectively known as "RED" (Retired Extremely Dangerous), may hold the key to finding the device.  He threatens to harm Sarah if Frank doesn't cooperate.

Left with no choice, Frank reunites with the surviving members of RED, the sharp-shooting Victoria Winslow (Helen Mirren), the volatile ex-MI6 agent Marvin Boggs (who turns out to have faked his death), and the tech-savvy computer whiz Han Cho Bai (Byung-hun Lee).

Their investigation takes them on a global quest, from snowy Moscow to the bustling streets of Paris. They face new adversaries, including a deadly Russian assassin, Katya Petrova (Catherine Zeta-Jones), who may be after the nuclear device for her own agenda.

As the team delves deeper into the conspiracy, they uncover a web of deceit that reaches the highest levels of power. They soon realise that the missing nuclear device could have catastrophic consequences.
